How the foundational, associate, professional and specialty AWS tracks fit together, and how to pick the credential that matches the role you want.
Match the credential to the role
Certifications are most useful when they mirror the work you want to do next. Architecture-focused roles align with solutions architect tracks; operations roles align with sysops and DevOps tracks. If you are early in your cloud journey, a foundational credential establishes vocabulary quickly and makes associate-level study far less overwhelming.
Sequence, then specialise
Most candidates benefit from completing an associate-level credential before attempting professional or specialty exams, which assume practical experience. Specialty exams reward depth. Choose one that reflects work you actually perform, such as security, networking or data.
